Bio

Guitarist/Composer Scott Cavanagh began playing at age 12 when his father Bob Cavanagh (a professional jazz guitarist himself) gave him his first instrument and lessons. From there, he went on to play in various rock ‘n roll bands during high school before deciding to study seriously at Boston’s Berklee College of Music. At Berklee, he earned his BS in Music and graduated with honors in 1986 with a degree in Music Production and Engineering. While at Berklee, Scott developed an interest in jazz guitar performance and composition, and with long-time professors Steve Carter, Bill Bresnahan, Tom Szymczak, and Al DeFino

From 1992-1994, Scott played with the “Merrimack New Hampshire Community Jazz Ensemble” before joining Manchester, NH-based “Moe Breton’s Big Band” from 1994-1998. During that period, he also was a member of “Pepper’d Jazz,” a jazz quintet led by New York vocalist Eddie Pepper.

For the 10 years between 1999-2009, his family commitments and “day job” with its rigorous business travel schedule didn’t allow any time for rehearsals and gigs. Thankfully for Scott, all that has changed! Since that time, Scott has performed with the following bands:

PAST GIGS:

  • The Wide Avenue Cohort (Jazz Quintet)
  • The Hot Club of Nashua (Gypsy Swing in the Django Reinhardt style)

CURRENT GIGS:

  • The Freese Brothers Big Band (a professional 20-piece Big Band)
  • 80Rock (a 501-C3 charity supporting childhood cancer research)
  • Past Our Prime aka POP! (an original music ska revival band)

In addition, Scott leads “Electric Soup,” a new music collaborative performing his original compositions.
